HOW ORANGE LOGIC AND INSTACART WORK TOGETHER
HOW INSTACART STREAMLINED WORKFLOWS WITH DAM
Learn how the world's largest online grocery service streamlined its workflows by switching digital asset management (DAM) platforms.
Designing for a phenomenon
Instacart got its start in the San Francisco Bay area over 10 years ago. Today it partners with more than 1,000 retail banners to facilitate online shopping, delivery, and pickup from over 75,000 locations across the U.S. and Canada.
Instacart's Creative Studio, led by Creative Director and DAM advocate Robert Paige, designs the artwork, animations, and video that bring the brand to life, and makes them available to the rest of the company.
The goal
- A more streamlined DAM workflow for creatives that would speed up production time
- A way for employees in other departments to find content without help
- A brand portal with Instacart’s own colors, fonts, and styling, built into the DAM
The team also wanted a DAM that could grow with them, such as adding templates so partners could customize Instagram content for their stores.
The challenge
Silos meant other teams often had to come to the Creative Studio whenever they needed assets. DAM workflows could also become disjointed, with users uploading and downloading assets through several programs.
“Orange Logic fit all of our needs for permissions and safeguarding our work, while also providing the necessary capabilities and an easy-to-use interface.”
— Robert Paige, Creative Director, Instacart
The solution
Simplified workflows
Assets now live in Orange DAM, with comments and annotations added directly in the system. Plugins with the Adobe Creative Suite let the team pull assets from the DAM, and the Adobe Premiere plugin handles timeline subclipping.
A self-service system
An easy-to-use central location cut back on how often users came to Robert’s team for content.
Brand portal
A brand portal personalized with Instacart’s brand colors and fonts shows only the most up-to-date content.
The results
A central source of truth cut down constant uploading and downloading, and other teams now find what they need on their own.
“Orange Logic has helped create operational efficiency around our brand assets and ensure they are used across channels and departments.”
— Robert Paige, Creative Director, Instacart
Lessons learned
Centralized workflows save time. With assets in one location, the team moves faster, assets stay secure, and versioning is simplified.
Users come back to easy-to-use systems. A straightforward system suits differing department needs.
Not all integrations are created equal. “With Orange Logic, you can open that file just by opening it in Photoshop. It doesn’t take up space, and it gives me a version history.”

Adobe Creative Suite plugins let the team pull assets straight from the DAM, and the Premiere plugin supports timeline subclipping, creating subclips as related assets.
