Does a DAM Support SAML SSO and Entra ID? | 4 Ways SSO Strengthens DAM Security

Many IT teams now require SSO before they'll approve a cloud-based DAM. This post covers how SSO improves security, sign-in, and user management in a DAM, along with the providers Orange Logic supports:

Does a DAM Support SAML SSO and Microsoft Entra ID?

Digital asset management (DAM) platforms like Orange Logic support SAML-based single sign-on (SSO) with Microsoft Entra ID, formerly Azure Active Directory, along with providers such as Okta, Google SSO, and PingFederate. With SSO, users sign in once through their identity provider, and administrators manage access and permissions for the DAM from one central place.

How Does Microsoft Entra ID Work With a DAM?

Microsoft Entra ID works with a DAM through SAML single sign-on, acting as the identity provider. It confirms who the user is, applies any MFA rules, and sends the DAM a signed confirmation, so the DAM never has to store a password. Orange Logic supports this setup, and IT connects it by adding the DAM as an app in the Entra admin center.

Entra ID is the new name for Azure Active Directory, which Microsoft renamed in 2023. If a vendor's documentation still says Azure AD, it means the same service.

Entra ID can also be configured to share a user's group memberships at sign-in. A designer added to a "Brand Creative" group, for example, gets the right DAM access the first time they sign in.

Okta, Google SSO, and PingFederate work the same way, so setup looks similar regardless of which provider your IT team uses.

4 Ways SSO Strengthens Security in Your DAM

1. Stronger Security for Brand Assets

A DAM often holds sensitive brand assets, like unreleased images and proprietary designs. SSO gives users one entry point, so they sign in once to reach multiple applications. That lowers the risk that comes with weak passwords and compromised credentials. SSO and MFA are part of Orange Logic’s broader security and compliance controls.

SSO also makes it easier to give new teams access while staying compliant, since IT grants and removes access through the identity provider.

2. Simpler Sign-In for Users

Without SSO, people keep track of a separate username and password for each application. With SSO, they sign in once and move between tools, which cuts down on password reuse and forgotten credentials.

Connecting your identity provider to the DAM keeps sign-in consistent with the rest of your tools. Groups can also simplify how you create and manage permissions in the DAM, so security rules stay consistent across connected systems like your CMS.

3. Centralized User Management

Managing permissions across many applications gets harder as organizations and asset libraries grow. In a Forrester Consulting study commissioned by Orange Logic, 56% of DAM decision-makers said delivering personalized recommendations for asset use or managing permissions was a challenge to reaching their DAM goals.

SSO puts that control in one place. Administrators assign, change, or remove access from a single dashboard, which reduces admin work and keeps security policies consistent across every connected application. In Orange Logic, administrators can assign access rights based on roles, groups, or individual assets, with easy updates and validation.

4. Multi-Factor Authentication for Added Protection

Most SSO platforms support multi-factor authentication (MFA), which adds a second check at sign-in. Microsoft Entra ID, for example, supports several MFA methods, including:

  • Push notifications in the Microsoft Authenticator app
  • Passkeys, including FIDO2 security keys
  • One-time passcode tokens
  • Text messages and voice calls

With MFA, a stolen password alone isn't enough to get into the DAM. That extra protection matters when the library holds unreleased campaigns or other sensitive assets.
